John Anthony Miller ~ The Stone Step (1969)
A copy of The Stone Step poetry book is for sale.I wanted this since I knew it existed. I can't afford it. I'm miserable as of now. If anyone buys or has a copy, please contact me here. Only 300 copies?! What is wrong with the world?!
Years ago, I obtained a copy via Inter-Library Loan from my college. I visited Wilkes-Barre and watched Jason perform in "Harvey". I gave him a photocopied version of the poems. He told me that they were not his, as far as he can remember.
I got my copy today. Thanks again for telling me. It is very nice, and I included one of the poems in a post today at Martel.
In the back it does say that there are only 300 copies of this edition (the "jadis/yume editions", "published for gordon bishop at stoneridge, new york"). It also notes that the first 30 copies "have been numbered and signed by the author".
There is also a list of magazines from whom permissions were given for reprint in this edition. Aside from "The Nation", they appear to be more obscure poetry magazines, possibly no longer in existence.
Great. You're more than welcome. Wonderful that you have it. The thought of having a copy was unbelievably thrilling. The thought of a signed copy is absolutely mind blowing. Enjoy your book!
Yup, I'd love a signed copy. I tend to collect those. This was a relative bargain for a book collector, honestly. A first edition illustrated by my Great-Aunt recently sold for $38,000. Now THAT'S way out of my budget. So relatively speaking, I felt it necessary to buy this.
As for the authorship questions brought up by David, at the very least "The Nation" ought to have the archived issues containing the poems reprinted in "Stone Step". I'll want to check that one. As for the 300 copies in this edition, it was 1969 and Miller was not a Pulitzer winner at that time, but after "That Championship Season" there probably was some sort of reprint. I regret to say I have no idea. I was merely in utero when "The Exorcist" was released, after all, if even that far into my existence.

OK, I'm officially a devoted fan now. I just ordered the book. Please tell me I'm not nuts. I'll send scans.
YOU ARE NOT NUTS!!! Oh my God! That's wonderful! Blessings and love upon your head!

The dedication reads, "for Norvin".

And there's a good puzzler... Who might Norvin be? Very mysterious... I love a good mystery.
